Donuts for Dads

We had a great afternoon with our Dads (and Grandpas, uncles, and friends) today!  Our guests rotated through stations with us, including making god's eyes, math games, computer lab, and of course eating delicious donuts!  Many thanks to all of our guests for taking time to visit our classrooms - the kids LOVE to have you here.  Thanks as well to everyone who donated yummy donuts - we had lots of leftovers that we have frozen to enjoy with our milk on Monday.

Read Across America Activities

We had a great time celebrating our love of reading this week with some special activities.  On Wednesday KE staff members participated in a "reading relay in which they read aloud to students.

 Wednesday we also had fun reading with our first grade friends.  This was a fun way to celebrate World Read Aloud Day too!

Reading with Mrs. Bender

Reading Yumi and Halmoni's Trip was the story in our anthology this week.  It was a story about a little girl traveling to Seoul, Korea with her grandmother (Halmoni).  Skills this week focused on identifying the character's feelings during events in the story.  We discussed how they would feel traveling to a country where they didn't know the language and how would that feel.  Skills focused on summarizing, identifying feelings using their prior knowledge and inferencing skills.

Science - HOMEWORK

The kids are almost done with their research, so it is time to begin work on our final project.  Today the kids were given their supplies for making either their planets or their black holes.  Kids working on solar systems or universes will do their project at school.  All projects are due March 14th.  The kids doing the paper mache project will need 3 to 4 days for drying time.  We will decorate and/or paint here at school.  Let me know if you have any questions.

 

National Read Aloud Day

On Wednesday for National Read Aloud Day we matched up with our first grade friends and did some reading.  The kids brought their favorite picture book to share along with some Dr. Seuss books to share with the first graders.  Picture books are always fun to read!  Thank you Ms. Stumpf and Mrs. O'Rourke for helping us with this project.

Math

We finished up our geometry chapter this week.  Due to snow days, late starts and visitors...we didn't get much math done this week.

 Next up is our last multiplication chapter.  During this chapter we try to take away the math charts, the kids need to have the problems memorized!  Work on the basic multiplication facts at home.

 Also, continue to work on reminding your student to bring back their homework on time.
