In Reading we continued working on Little House on the Prairie. Friday we looked up some of our vocabulary words, that had multiple meanings, using the dictionary on the computer. The kids had to decide which meaning matched the sentence.
Mrs. Hartsock's reading group pretended to be "Ma" and wrote letters to relatives back in Wisconsin, updating them about the Ingalls family adventures. We thought it would be really hard to leave our families and only be able to contact each other a few times a year via letters.
In math we learned how many minutes old we were ( 4, 730,400 minutes if you were 9 years old.) We also spent some time reviewing the multiplication facts.
Mrs. Bender's science class was able to finish their flashlights and share their designs with the class. Next up...independent science projects. We have several groups trying to do something with a water wheel, some groups are doing wind energy, two groups are doing solar energy and one group is expanding on what they learned with their batteries and bulb. The kids may need to bring some supplies from home, we will keep you posted.
In social studies we reviewed rural, suburban, and urban communities and their qualities. Before break students had worked in small groups to learn about one of the community types, and created posters to share their knowledge with the class. The following pictures are from our small group work time:
Of course, Friday was Stations! We made two different types of snowflakes, finished some math pages from this week, practiced for our spelling test coming up next week and posted some more journal entries on our blog.
