Language Skills

Students took the "end of the theme" spelling test this week, which is a longer list that combines words from the lists we've studied during the theme (unit).  Typically the spelling lists are comprised of words that have something in common (ex. all long vowel words ending with an e).  This list helps us to evaluate how well students are learning/retaining the spelling patterns we've studied, and a grade is recorded.  We were impressed with how well most did!  Students who didn't do as well as they liked were allowed to take a "retest" later in the week, and the scores were averaged for their spelling grade.  It was great to see students take home their list and study up for a better grade.

We continue to learn about sentences in grammar, and this week we learned to identify the subject and predicate of sentences.

Students also completed the writing process (prewriting, drafting/sloppy copy, editing, rewriting/neat sheet, and publishing) by typing their personal narratives.  They did a great job remembering how to open Pages (our word processing program), as well as how to save to their flash drives!
